    Title

How the Health of the Auditory Nerve Affects Performance with a Cochlear Implant

Our presentation will focus on the influence of auditory nerve function and health on performance with a cochlear implant (CI). We will present results obtained in animal models of cochlear implantation, and explore how those findings translate to children and adults who listen with CIs.

    Learning Outcomes
    1. Understand how we use animal models to assess cochlear implant function.
    2. Explain the relationship between objective measures and the condition of the auditory nerve.
    3. Describe how objective measures of neural health relate to speech recognition performance in humans with cochlear implants.
